Fly to Antarctica!
Plus 6 Days Exploring by Ship
December 4 - December 12, 2027Come with WTT on the adventure of a lifetime. Antarctica is an otherworldly and breathtaking destination - it's almost like traveling to another planet. Instead of sailing for two days through the rough seas of the Drake Passage between South America and the Antarctic, we'll fly to the bottom of the world. Antarctica holds 90% of the Earth's ice. It will stun you with its light and beauty. Immerse yourself in the frozen landscapes as you search for whales, penguins, seals and seabirds. Antarctica is often called the "last untouched continent" as it is the most remote and uninhabited place on Earth. If visiting all seven continents is a goal, grab this chance now; don't wait!

Walking and hiking during shore excursions are key components of this tour. The provided rubber-soled boots will offer good traction. All shore landings are via Zodiac boats; from the Zodiac, you must step into the water and wade a short distance to land. If you choose to book optional excursions, be aware that these can be physically demanding.
Your Responsibilities as a Solo Traveler
As a solo traveler you are responsible for yourself, your possessions, your physical fitness, and all other aspects related to participation in the WTT tour you have chosen. Be sure to read the itinerary closely to better understand the physical requirements necessary for the tour.

Itinerary
Saturday, 04 December 2027: Arrive Punta Arenas, Chile (D)
Schedule your flight into Punta Arenas, Chile, to arrive by no later than 2:00pm. We urge you to consider arriving a day early to ensure any travel delays do not impact your trip. The tour begins at 4:00pm in the lobby of the hotel with our Welcome Meeting. We'll then enjoy an early dinner together this evening to get better acquainted and discuss our upcoming adventure. Overnight Punta Arenas - 2 nights
Sunday, 05 December 2027: Morning at Leisure; Mandatory Briefing; Group Dinner (B,D)
Enjoy a leisurely morning before, as a group, we "officially" check-in, pick up our gear, and attend to other details before our mandatory orientation briefing, which covers the essential guidelines for Antarctic visitors. This process is likely to take most of the day. Please note: This meeting is mandatory. Anyone who misses this meeting is considered a no-show for the trip. Later, we'll enjoy dinner together where a typical regional menu is offered.
Monday, 06 December 2027: Fly to King George Island; Board the Expedition Ship (B,L,D)
After breakfast we board our flight to King George Island, the largest of the Shetland Islands. This two-hour fight saves two days of sailing across the notorious Drake Passage. After deplaning, we take a short walk from the airfield to the shore and board a Zodiac that will whisk us to the expedition vessel. Upon boarding we get settled into our assigned cabins and attend a safety briefing. We then sail through the Lemaire Channel, our first introduction to Antarctica. We enjoy dinner together and preview what to expect in the coming days. Overnight Expedition Ship - 5 nights
Tuesday, 07 December 2027: Explore Antarctica (B,L,D)
Our expedition vessel cruises between the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, navigating into ice-filled fjords and around spectacular icebergs. No journey to the end of the Earth is the same, and flexibility is the key to a successful Antarctic adventure. Our Expedition Team plans the voyage route to take advantage of the ever-changing opportunities provided by nature. While the exact itinerary changes with each expedition, we are assured of exploring several sites that provide the best possible overview of the varied environment. Our voyage may include visits to sites in the South Shetland Islands, the Antarctic Sound, the Gerlache Strait and the Penola Strait.
Wednesday, 08 December 2027: Explore Antarctica (B,L,D)
Our adventure continues. Each day, depending on weather and ice conditions, we can disembark by Zodiac to explore the landscape with our expedition guides. This team of experts provide a greater understanding and appreciation of these incredible and remote regions. While onboard, there are engaging educational programs to attend and there is always plenty of spectacular views from the lounge.
Thursday, 09 December 2027: Explore Antarctica (B,L,D)
One of the most exciting parts of any expedition is getting up close and personal with our surroundings. Zodiacs enable passengers to travel safely and quickly from ship to shore. They also take us near bird cliffs, icebergs and the unique wildlife.
Friday, 10 December 2027: Explore Antarctica (B,L,D)
After four days of exploring Antarctica and discovering new adventures, we soon realize that setting foot on the seventh continent is a privilege and an honor and we have seen and done what so many others will never see and do.
Saturday, 11 December 2027: Return to King George Island; Return Charter Flight to Punta Arenas (B)
After breakfast and a return walk back to the airfield, we board our charter flight to return to Punta Arenas. Upon arrival, we will transfer to the hotel for the night. Overnight Punta Arenas - 1 night
Sunday, 12 December 2027: Depart Puntas Arenas for Home (B)
Sadly, our Antarctic expedition has come to an end. Schedule your return flight at your convenience. A transfer to the airport based on your departure time is included.
The itinerary is subject to change based on unpredictable weather and sea conditions,
at the sole discretion of the captain.
While unlikely, the flight to Antarctica and/or returning from Antarctica
could be delayed or pushed forward due to weather. These possible adjustments
should not have an impact on your arrival date or departure date from Punta Arenas.

Insurance Reminder
Mandatory Emergency Medical/Evacuation Insurance is required to take this trip and is not included in the cost of the tour. It must cover air-evacuation from Antarctica as a result of a medical emergency during the trip. This insurance typically does NOT cover trip cancellation and/or interruption, which is also strongly recommended (See Below). Suggested companies for Emergency Medical/Evacuation Insurance are: Allianz Travel Insurance and World Nomads.
Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption Insurance is not included in the cost of the tour. It is your responsibility to determine the amount and type of coverage you require to recoup some or all of your travel investment, whether you cancel, are unable to complete the tour, or the tour cannot operate due to no fault of WTT. Section 4.0 of WTT Terms & Conditions explains what will happen to your payments in the unlikely event that your tour cannot operate.
You can purchase travel insurance from any provider you choose. To get an idea of rates, please go to NTA Travel Protection Plan (Enter 206063 for the "Tour Operator Location #") or TravelGuard.

How Does Room Sharing Work?
You will have 2 options on the Reservation Form, one to share with another solo traveler, or to share with a friend you can specify by name.
Note: A Single Cabin is NOT available for this tour and will be greyed out.
- Select "Yes, I want to share a room" and WTT will assign you a roommate when Final Travel Instructions are sent.
- You can specify a roommate by entering her name where indicated. If your named roommate is not on the tour, for any reason, WTT will assign you a roommate unless you pay to have your own room, if available.
- All shared rooms have 2 beds of the same size
- All shared rooms are non-smoking
- We pair roommates by age (within 10 years) and try to room new WTT travelers with seasoned WTT travelers.
- No special requests about your roommate can be accommodated
- The name of your roommate and contact information should you wish to communicate before the tour will be in the Final Travel Instructions, emailed 2-3 weeks prior to the tour start.
How Active is this Tour?
- 25% Easy
- 60% Moderate (Remoteness, weather, lack of infrastructure)
- 15% Strenuous (Varies based on the landing site and desired activity level.)

WTT tours are not suitable for anyone whose mobility is challenged or compromised. If you struggle with walking, standing or negotiating stairs or if you are in doubt as to your ability to meet the physical activity requirements, you should not sign up for this trip.
What is the Group Size?
You will be introduced to the WTT Tour Leader when you receive your Final Travel Instructions, about 2-3 weeks before the tour begins.
Learn about your fellow travelers after final payment by visiting MyWTT. Room sharing assignments will be listed in the Final Travel Instructions.
What meals are included and how are dietary restrictions accommodated?
Each day of the itinerary lists the included meals for that day (B,L,D,O). When a meal is not included, the WTT Tour Leader will have suggestions for where to eat.
You do not have to dine alone unless it is your personal choice. You'll most likely be dining with new acquaintances you've made, or you can join the Tour Leader.
Dietary Restrictions on International Tours: WTT has limited to no control over food selections or variety from meal-to-meal, especially at hotels. While we do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions and ensure variety of options, we cannot guarantee either.
What clothing and items should I pack for this trip?
Ship Details—
- The ship is well heated; it is only when outside that warm clothing is needed. Opt for casual, practical attire that can be easily layered. Wool, silk and synthetic fibers like polar fleece retain heat better than cotton.
- Limit the number of travel size/one-time-use products you pack. There is no place to discard empty containers or baggies. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, shower cap, slippers and robe are provided on board.
- Hiking poles will be available to borrow.
- Waterproof jacket and pants are mandatory for all Zodiac excursions
- Thermal base layer (i.e. long underwear) and thick wool socks
- Fleece jacket or warm, comfortable layer
- Waterproof & insulated gloves, scarf and warm hat
- Closed-toe footwear with good tread (open-toed shoes are not allowed in ship's public spaces)
- Face Protection: Sunblock, moisturizer and lip balm. The air is extremely dry, the sun intense, and skin chaps quickly.
- UV-filtering sunglasses
- Refillable water bottle (ship has filling stations)
- Complimentary waterproof boots (US size 6-16) are provided for use during the tour. These are essential for ALL Zodiac landings as you typically must step out of the Zodiac into water up to 1 foot in depth.
- You can rent clothing (coats, pants, base layers) from the outfitter if you'd prefer. Details on how and when to rent will be provided after final payment.
- Day pack and dry bag to protect items that shouldn't get wet
- Binoculars
- Ski goggles to protect your eyes on very windy days.
- Swimsuit for Polar Plunge
Good Packing Habits—
- Bring what you need to get a good night's sleep, such as ear plugs, white noise generator, sleeping aids, etc. Unfamiliar noises of all types can disrupt your rest.
- Pack a limited amount of comfortable, casual clothing that layer and coordinate. Your fellow travelers will not mind or even notice – seeing you in the same clothing.
- Pare down your beauty regimen to the bare minimum.
- Pack medication in your carry-on and pack only as much as needed for the duration of your tour plus a few extra days as a precaution.
What are the luggage restrictions for this tour?
On every WTT tour, our policies regarding luggage restrictions are driven by the physical space limitations and the requirement that all travelers be able to manage their belongings without assistance.
- You may bring only one suitcase plus one carry-on; space to store luggage is limited in the ship's cabins.
- Luggage weight limit for the aircraft is a maximum of 55 lbs PER PERSON, not per bag. Additional luggage must be stored at the hotel in Punta Arenas. You are responsible for any extra cost for luggage storage.
- You are responsible for managing your belongings, including handling your hand luggage on a mile walk from the airfield to the Zodiac landing site.
What are the phone and internet recommendations for this tour?
Only you can determine your need to stay in contact while traveling.
- Basic WiFi is available for browsing and instant messaging on the ship. Upgraded WiFi is available for a fee.
- The excursion ship has internet connectivity in Antarctica, but it can be sporadic and unreliable.
- There is no cell coverage in Antarctica.
- Contact your cell phone service provider before departing about adding an international calling and/or texting plan while in Chile.
- Learn how to make an international call BEFORE you leave. Check out the website www.HowToCallAbroad.com.
How much money should I bring on this tour?
Only you can determine the optimum amount of cash to take on tour. When budgeting for out-of-pocket expenses, there are several aspects to consider: the number of meals you are responsible for, the amount of money you like to have on-hand for snacks and drinks, and your individual habits.
- USD is the standard currency used on board the ship. Both cash and credit cards are accepted as payment for incidental charges made while on board. Purchases on board are settled at the end of the voyage.
- The Chilean currency is the Chilean Peso (CLP). However, most places in Punta Arenas accept credit cards or USD so there is likely no need to have local currency.
- Due to the remote location, we recommend you have a $200 "emergency fund" on hand in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
- Notify your credit card issuer(s) that you will be traveling and provide dates of travel.
What are the tipping guidelines for this tour?
- You are responsible for tipping the expedition ship's crew (budget $150 - $200 USD).
- You are also responsible for tipping wait staff, porters, or other individuals who provide a service to you at the hotel, or other public locations. It is normal practice in most of Latin America to tip those who provide a service.
- You may want to tip your WTT Tour Leader for an outstanding job. The amount is entirely a personal preference but we suggest $8 - $10 per day.
Can I transfer my deposit to another tour?
To get off this tour and register for another tour, you must follow these steps - in the order shown:
2) WAIT before submitting your new reservation! You must receive the Cancellation Confirmation email before submitting your new reservation. This can take up to 2 business days. The Cancellation Confirmation email will list the amount of parked credits from this tour that are now available to use on a new reservation.

Note: If you used Parked Credits to pay the deposit on this tour, these credits cannot be used a second time and are not eligible to be transferred.
